The Hatch Baby Grow is a smart diaper changing pad that comes with a sleek design and a built in scale to quickly and easily log information about your baby. No, not just how many peepees and how many poopoos…. While you can track diapers (Wet, Dirty, Both), you can also track your baby’s weight, feedings, amount per feeding, and sleep. The Hatch interfaces with a mobile app, where you can more vitals such as height, pumping, photos of your LO, and keep notes.
I can definitely see how tracking baby’s weight in the first few weeks would have been convenient and could’ve put my mind at ease with Rainier back in the day. Rainier lost over 10% of his birth weight in the first couple days.. The day after we left the hospital we had a visiting nurse come by to check on us and she immediately raised concern about baby’s weight. Apparently, everyone in the room misheard the neonatal care nurse give us instructions about how to feed baby. We all were certain she told me I should only feed him for 20 minutes on one boob every 2 hours. Turns out, you’re supposed to do 20 minutes back to back on each boob every 2 hours. So poor Rainier wasn’t getting enough milk those first few days. The nurse tore into me for doing it wrong, and of course, I was in tears when she left. I felt like a bad mommy and I was so hormonal and overwhelmed. Yet the worst part was learning that I had basically been starving my baby. Poor Rainier! We had to immediately supplement and make sure he gained 8 oz in a day or so. Well, we didn’t have a scale and so we had to call the nurse back to come weigh him. Had we had this diaper changing pad, we could have checked his weight on our own. This time around with Theodore, we wanted a better experience and wanted to do things right. The Hatch Baby Grow helped us achieve our goals in the first few weeks with Theodore!
This time around with Theodore, we have been using the Hatch Baby grow to track Theodore’s weight since the moment we came home from the hospital. We can weigh baby right before a feeding and then right after the feeding to know how much exactly baby is drinking. By tracking his feeding weights and how much he is gaining every few days, we have the confidence to know and trust that momma’s milk is working and we don’t have to second guess whether I am producing enough or not (especially during a growth spurt when they just keep eating and are fussy for days on end. It makes you second guess if you are producing enough or not when in reality, you probably are, and even if not, keeping the baby on the breast during this time will send your body signals to produce more milk to keep up with the demand).
Another great feature is tracking the wet/dirty diapers in the mobile app. Whenever a baby gets sick, doctors always ask you how many wet diapers your little one had recently and ask you to track that to make sure they are staying hydrated. So simply enough, I can open the app and see the timeline.
All in all, the smart changing pad helps to make parenting easier and ease your mind. The numbers don’t lie and that’s what’s important!
Hatch Baby also has the Hatch Baby Rest which is a Night light, sound machine, and Ok-to-wake indicator all in one. Currently, I am using it in our bedroom for nursing at night as a night light and sound machine. Soon enough, we’ll start enforcing it as an okay to wake indicator for Rainier. Thankfully, he usually sleeps in until about 8 am these days which is perfect timing for me getting up to start my day (if baby Theodore didn’t do that first!).

The Hatch baby rest comes with a few plastic panels with different designs for decorating it to match the decor of the room.
