Ever get stuck on ideas for birthday parties for your kids? You want something different; something besides pizza and animatronics? I had been doing research this year and I found a solution for you to consider for the next birthday party you plan!
For Rainier’s fifth birthday party we treated him and his friends to a variety of hands-on STEM experiments with a Space themed mad scientist birthday party hosted by Mad Science. Two female (gasp) mad scientists came to our home and put on a ton of experiments and space travel themed demonstrations for 15+ kids. One of the experiments was a Van de Graaf Generator and one a rocket launch in the backyard. The experiments of vectors and velocity filled the kids with wonder and exposed them to STEM theories and principles they might not have been able to experience for many years. The experiments and explanations were conducted at an age appropriate level to make sure all the little aspiring astronauts and scientists would be inspired to pursue their own STEM futures. The Mad Scientists ended the party with cotton candy for everyone and it was just the sweetest 😉 The promise of cotton candy also served to help manage a gaggle of children whose enthusiasm often spilled over into crowding the experiment and standing in the line of fire of rockets and other moving parts. The scientists did an amazing job of maintaining a group of hyperactive five-year olds’ interest while teaching them a thing or two about science and research. They even – taught the kids about how to form and test a hypothesis. They would frequently pause the science experiment right before execution to ask the children, “what is the hypothesis?” The kids would actually answer it correctly! The parents that came with their children to the Mad Science party loved it and enjoyed the show too. Some may have even learned a thing or two!
The Mad Scientists even taught me little trick to get my children to sit still. “Time to sit on your pockets as our next science experiment is starting” worked like a charm.
Mad Science is an international company, not just local. They cater to children ages 3-12 years old. They run birthday parties, after school programs and summer camps. For their birthday parties, they have a variety of different party themes to choose from including Young Witches/Wizards, Mad about Blue, Halloween. You can also pick add on packages such as the cotton candy machine, lab coats for the children, science themed goodie bags and more. We should have added the goodie bags as they were probably much more interesting than the candy filled ones my husband and I prepared. You can make it unique to fit your child’s needs and interests. All options are affordable and will give your child and their friends memories to last a lifetime. Plus, they will learn something new and may even be inspired to pursue STEM too.
Pro Mommy Tip: Head on over to their website and give them your email for their newsletter to get deals and coupons delivered right to your inbox.
