Our Vail, Colorado roundup post is here. We had so much fun we had on our family friendly ski vacation. We took a road trip the other weekend to go celebrate Rainier’s birthday. The drive was super easy (we only made three turn the whole way from Salt Lake City and one of those was turning into Vail!) and besides a few meltdowns on the way there from Theodore because he wanted to go in the pool “NOW!” 1 hour into the drive, it was an easy drive.
We enjoyed ski in ski out accommodations with @VailResidences a @DestinationHotels. It worked out really well for the whole family. Rainier took lessons and Courntey was able to enjoy some expert level terrain. We worked on helping Theodore learn to ski some more and I was able to bring Theodore back for a nap easily. Condos have many perks for families. I was able to cook myself lunch while Theodore napped for instance. Many evenings, the kids were exhausted from the long day and we didn’t want to risk going to dinner and having them melt down in the middle of it (we learned hard the first night if you saw that in my stories). It was easy and convenient to be able to make something for the kids for dinner and then start their bedtime routine. After the kids were in bed, we had the rest of the house to ourselves for adult time and could watch movies, talk, play games, and just enjoy each other’s company instead of sitting in quiet in a dark hotel room while the kids slept.
We met so many other great families staying there from all over. The kids really enjoyed playing together with other kids staying there, especially during their special cookie and hot chocolate hours. The infinity pool with sweeping tree and mountain views was of course a huge hit for the whole family. They have the cutest private ice rink and the ski valet (to store your skiis or just to pop in and warm up or answer some emails on the computers provided there for business professionals or owners) is perfect for any visitor. They have thought of everything to make your stay as convenient and comfortable as possible.
It was easy to visit the main village, lionshead with a quick shuttle ride right from the hotel. We explored the village, shopped at the variety of stores, ate ice cream (the adults enjoyed spiked ice cream) and even checked out the Vail library. There were so many great family friendly activities to do there.
The staff went above and beyond for us and was super friendly. I’ll always remember the two front desk ladies who helped us out. They were super professional and friendly and the valet guys who went above and beyond packing our car up for us while we herded the whole family into the car.
Most important, we’ll have wonderful memories enjoying this trip as a family together with minimal fights, meltdowns and yelling because everyone was comfortable and things were convenient. That’s how I want to remember my trips with my young children 🙂 Happy and calm.
We loved Vail so much, we’ll be adding this to our yearly ski vacation list. You should visit too! You’ll love it!
